rumps and crowns spring is coming no snow !!!

We have a rule. It is an important rule . You cannot lie about a bird in a bag.  You can make an inference but you cannot say this is a  ...... some  incredible rarity to make all of us crazy. I have the privilege  this year to band with my son Reed. He is  doing a coop with Georgian College  and I have banded many many birds with him over his years. Today we managed to capture a bird that I was able to follow the rule and yet  maintain the rule.   Here is the photo that has me so excited

A redpoll May 5th is very rare indeed  however there was more to come  I was very excited to have  the Jacob Lachapelle back to the marsh to help out. Jacob recently has been hired by Bird Studies Canada and was recently working at lesser slave lake banding birds last summer

Reed and Jacob were able to run our river nets today and we we are super lucky to have Jacob back to the marsh. no doubt he will have his permit one day and we are so proud of all he is doing in the birding  world.

Also of great interest  today was banding 3 red breasted  nuthatches in one net check

There have been many years we do not get any in a year despite our boreal habitat.

Today we  ended up with 46 birds  and 13 species including this photo of Sid with our first yellow rumped warbler  of the season

bird is the word!!
